Bandai’s promised teaching app for the 2020 Digimon Card Gameis now live on Google Play and the App Store. The Android/iOS app features two short tutorial levels explaining the rules of the game, followed by three open-ended free duels with an AI using preset decks. While the first two duels are scripted and played with full 50-card decks, the last three allow the player to try a 30-card “half deck” version of the three Starter Decks launching this April. The app is currently only available in Japanese.
The half decks usable in free play are missing several cards, including Angemon and Angewomon, Gaia Force, and Cocytus Breath among others. However, the app also revealed several previously-unseen cards from the Starter Decks:

The app clarifies several points about the game rules:
Evolution Source Effects do not apply to the Digimon the effect is written on, only to the Digimon they evolve into.
Evolving a Digimon does not affect a Digimon’s “summoning sickness.” (If the Digimon was placed this turn, it still cannot attack after evolving; if it was placed on a previous turn, it does not become unable to attack after evolving.)
Drawing for the Evolution Bonus is a mandatory effect, but if the player has no cards in deck, they do not lose the game as a result of evolving. Players only lose from having no cards in deck if they reach their Draw Phase.
For the purposes of learning the game, the Half Decks each contain copies of their respective deck’s Super Rare, Cost 6 Blocker, Level 3, 4, and 6 vanillas, their main line’s Level 5, and two Option Cards each.
